Life is More Than Meets the Eye

By Nisandeh Neta

On a spring day, "way back" in the sixties, I was born.
A direct result of a coincidence of nature.
And one day in the future, after a life of co-incidences, I
will die.

At the age of 24, I firmly believed that this is life...
A series of meaningless coincidences...

I grew up with a strong analytical mind.
Life was to be looked at, through one or more of the five
senses, nothing else.
What I couldn't see, hear, taste, smell or touch, for my
part, did not exist.
I did believe the claim of modern science that sophisticated
machines could be used for sensing, but that was it!

Concepts such as God, Spirit, Soul, Higher Consciousness,
life purpose, healing, past lives and reincarnation simply
did not exist, because they were not visible to my naked eye.
"Cannot be seen" translated into non-existent.

People needed these concepts, I rationalized, to validate
their insignificant lives through a belief in something.
These beliefs gave people a reason to live this life on
earth.

Meanwhile, I was simply here to enjoy the ride until one day
my body, a machine, ceased to function and... that's life
folks!

Until... One evening I was sitting with a small group of
people, learning the basics of a massage technique.
The teacher instructed us to rub our hands together and
observe what occurred.

I was rubbing my palms together vigorously until they got
hot and then brought them closer and further away from each
other and suddenly...

There Was Something There!

In between my hands there was a clear ball of... Something.
I couldn't see it. But nevertheless it was present.
It had a spherical shape, an elastic quality, a clear size -
it was there.
My teacher called it - energy.

Though it was many years ago, I can still remember vividly
running home enveloped in excitement about this new
phenomenon that instantaneously penetrated through my rigid
view of the world.

The days and weeks after this experience, however, were kind
of tough.
Whilst elated from the realization that there is so much more
to life than I thought, my world view had in fact, crumbled
overnight.

Since one of my firmest convictions about life was
drastically altered so easily and instantly - I was left
wondering as to the validity of my remaining beliefs and
notions.

I was forced to start questioning each and every one of my
beliefs, opinions, points of view and convictions.

My path of personal-growth had begun.

And with this beginning, magic made a grand entrance into my
life. Big time.

I heard for the first time about enlightenment - and without
being able to grasp its meaning - I knew, with all my being,
that this is what my life was all about.

I took a sharp turn from everything I had previously labeled
'my life' and began traveling the world - in search of
answers.

I encountered many experiences along the way that I couldn't
even begin to grasp. At one point I stopped even trying - I
simply named them magic.

From sensing energies, the path to experiencing healing was
short.

On one particular monsoon night I was dancing ecstatically
in an ashram in India, when I got an Asthma attack.
I was suffering from Asthma for 20 years, but this was the
worst attack ever...

... I am crawling to the nearby hospital, fighting for breath.
I forgot my shoes. I am barefoot. I am going to die.
No rickshaw is stopping in this rain.
...
I am sitting on the hospital bed.
A man is giving me an injection, without any apparent
attempt to sterilize the needle he is using.
I am beyond caring.

For the first time in my life, I make a vow.
If I am to continue living - I will never again suffer from
asthma...

Sure enough, 20 minutes later I was fine again.
A bit shook up, but capable of returning to my apartment.
Barefoot in the overflowing street - I was simply happy to
be alive.

A month later I followed a short energy-healing course.
On the last evening, I gave myself a five-minute session to
heal my asthma.
Needless to say - I never suffered from asthma again...
That was 8 years ago.
Magic!

That winter evening, when for the first time, I rubbed my
hands together and discovered energies, I opened up to be
able to look at life with new eyes.

Step by step I began to experience the subtle realities.
I learned to consciously create the magic that transforms a
thought into physical reality.
I experienced multi-dimensional realities during trance...

... I am walking a path in the woods, until I reach a
clearing.
I hear a sound behind me that startles me.
I turn around and just a few meters away there is a big,
black bear.
I hear him talk to me not as a voice in my ears, but as a
clear thought in my mind.

"Put your head inside my mouth!"
"You must be crazy," I answer.
"Put your head inside my mouth!" he repeats.

Somehow I am not afraid, but as I approach the bear I can
clearly smell his breath. I see his teeth and I realize he
is going to chomp my head off. I back away, and slowly the
image blurs and I move to another reality, with waterfalls,
and birds and no more talking bears...

When I wake up from the trance, I share my story with the
group.
My teacher says, "The bear, your spirit animal, gave you the
opportunity to let go of your mind, let go of your control.
And you refused..."

Instantly, it made sense to me.

I promised myself that on the next time, I'll let the bear
devour my head, but... since then, my bear has returned in
many of my trances, but he never again asked me to put my
head inside his mouth.

Experiencing life with all its subtlety made me realize that
there is order underneath the apparent chaos and coincidence.
The more I experience, the more I realize that there is a
purpose to life.

Life was so boring, when I believed that I just 'appeared'
one day into existence and at another random time I will
simply "dis-appear" - to become... just compost.

Life became so exciting.
I know we all came to this life for a reason.
We have a purpose to be here.
We have work to do, lessons to learn, wisdom to gain...

Today I can see magic was always there...

I had just called it coincidence.
